MEET TAYLOR

Born and raised just outside of New York City (except for a brief stint in the Caribbean!), I have had the complete privilege of living in various parts of the country; from living in Boston after high school, to moving to the island of Martha's Vineyard afterwards, to then moving around to Vail Colorado, Lake Tahoe California, Rochester New York, Southern Maine, and Seattle Washington (whew!), I loved every minute of my rapidly changing early twenty-something years.

After settling down in Seattle for the last 10 years, my husband and I are excited to be heading back on the open road — in the fall of 2020 we sold our home and nearly everything we owned and are now living the slow, sustainable life, traveling the world by sailboat for the foreseeable future.

MY path

In 2012 I was introduced to CrossFit, and it turned my world upside down. I fell in love with the challenge, the community, and the palpable growth and strength I gained every day through the practice. It inspired me to quit smoking (I was a pack-a-day’er for nearly a decade), and more generally, pay attention to how I was taking care of myself — and of course, it inspired me to start this little blog to help you do the same.

Seven years later, a complex and compound injury put me squarely on the bench, where I have been since. And though I miss fitness and weightlifting dearly, nothing is missing in my life — and here’s why.

I have been on an internal journey of growth and strength over the last 8+ years as well: healing, exploring and challenging my beliefs, my identities, my judgements, reactions, and my view of myself.

And when my physical training came to an end, my mental training really began to flourish.

Years of intense self study, coupled with deep work with my students and clients, have brought me to new and profound levels of understanding of the mind.

And it is my absolute privilege to lead you through this transformative work in She Thrives Academy, and share my lessons and insights here on the blog and in my newsletter.

what I do

So like.. what’s “mindset work”, and what exactly do I do?

Have you ever payed close attention to your thoughts? Like REALLY close attention? And not just to the big, loud, repetitive ones — but the subtle hints and whispers that flash through your mind every second of every day?

This infinite torrent of opinion, judgement, and commentary is more than just an annoying or rude chatter box. Depending on how you meet this, it quite literally IS your life.

Most people have no idea how much influence their thoughts carry, and they spend their days being pushed and pulled by their mind— living in complete reaction (or total aversion) to the contents of their thoughts, or the result of these thought: emotion.

They are either running from themselves at every turn to quiet this noise, or take it all so seriously (especially the harsh self-judgement and cyclical damaging beliefs) that it robs them of their capacity for joy.

Either way (or wherever in between), the mind is entirely out of control, and most people have NO understanding of how to stop being held captive by their own thoughts. After all, we never get taught how to do this in school!

The result of this mismanaged mind looks like this, and maybe you recognize it:

  • At war with your body, trying to hide or fix various parts of your physical self

  • Stuck in loops of self sabotage or always attempting to gain self control or discipline

  • Terrified of failure, rejection, or judgement, and doing everything you can to avoid these at all costs

  • Easily overwhelmed by emotions like anxiety, worry, fear, or shame

  • Needing to be constantly distracted or stimulated (scrolling, background noise, tv, podcasts, food, substances, etc)

  • Patterns like perfectionism, people pleasing, and following someone else’s path or expectations

  • Convinced that the next thing will finally bring you peace or happiness (an accomplishment, relationship, life change, etc), and therefore always chasing a moving goal post, and never actually ‘arriving’.

So what do I do?

I teach you how to break free of ALL of those patterns, which are ALL born of aversion or allegiance to your own thoughts.

I teach you how to understand your own mind. I teach you how to turn down the raging inner self judgement, how to stop living in a state of fear and reactivity to everything that’s happening within and without, and how to access the peace that has always been available to you, for good.

Taking care of yourself starts in your mind. How you relate to your own thought and emotion changes EVERY SINGLE CORNER of your life, from your body image, to your food patterns, to your relationships, to your life choices, and most importantly, how every dimension of these facets FEEL to you.
